In 1790, Johann Friedrich Lohmann founded the "Stahlfabrik" (steel factory) in Witten.
Now in its 7th generation, the family business Friedr. Lohmann GmbH, manufacturers of special steels, is run today with the same commitment shown by previous generations. The company´s two traditional locations, Herbede and Annen, have evolved from the "steel factory" founded in 1790 in Witten by Johann Friedrich Lohmann. Today, the company has approximately 350 employees.
As a manufacturer of High Speed Steel, Tool Steel and Special Steel grades and abrasion-resistant specialty steel and heat-resistant castings, LOHMANN has achieved worldwide significance. The long established special steel factory is closely linked with the industrial development of the town of Witten and its surroundings. High-performance equipment, environmentally-friendly production processes and well-trained, motivated specialist teams together with a quality management according to DIN EN ISO 9001 are the guarantors for the high standard and quality of our products and for ensuring ongoing development processes.
The implementation of an environmental management system (DIN EN ISO 14001) reflects the company´s strong commitment to protecting and improving the environment. Our commitment to Health and Safety makes us an attractive employer. To ensure that this remains a priority, we have introduced a professional work safety management system, for which we have been awarded the "Sicher mit System" (Systematic Safety) seal of approval by the "Berufsgenossenschaft Holz und Metall" (professional body for companies in the wood and metal industries). Our company is recognized by the Chamber of Commerce as a certified apprentice training company. A certified risk management system has been introduced in accordance with the German Corporate Sector Supervision and Transparency Act (KonTraG).
